    A safe space for anyone who wants to use boxing training for fitness or competition.

    Northern Powerhouse is the first boxing club in the UK led by women, with a goal of providing access to boxing and exercise to anyone.

    We prioritise our services to women and girls offering some women only sessions but we have no gender requirements for general participation. Our aim is to provide a safe space free from stereotypes and expectations, where anyone can confidently train and progress to their full potential.

    We offer Olympic-style boxing coaching to everyone and anyone aged between 10-39 years can work towards competing for the club. We’re affiliated to the North West Counties ABA and our coaches are England Boxing trained and registered.

    Our work extends into local schools, social services, youth and community groups  - our aim is to bring the benefits of boxing to the wider community.

    The boxing sessions have helped me in so many ways, I'm socialising with people who understand my circumstances as a trans individual and I'm feeling better for it, it's great for both my physical and my mental health as a whole.

    NPBA has been a lifeline to me after contracting Covid-19 in 2020. I went from being a super-fit person with never-ending energy to barely able to walk. Over time I was able to build my fitness and skill levels in a supportive environment where I was never pushed beyond my limit. Although my physical health is still an issue, it has really helped my mental health to be part of such a great community and have goals to work towards.

    “Thank you for opening your doors and allowing our centre members to access your facilities. It has been one of my highlights of the year to have arranged this. It has allowed a group of vulnerable women to not only access physical fitness but to improve self-confidence and self-esteem, where ordinarily they wouldn’t have had that opportunity. It helps us to make the women feel like Calderdale is home."

    Funded 12 week programme for local charity

    As parents we struggled to find a club or sport facility local to us (living in a semi-rural area) that suited our daughter’s interests and that would give her the opportunity to learn fitness skills and improve her physical health.

    Northern Powerhouse Boxing Academy has provided our daughter with an invaluable opportunity to develop confidence in a friendly, diverse, supportive and empowering community space.
