Become a Youth Mentor at NPBA

NPBA is looking for a Youth Mentor to help us offer social, emotional and mental health support for young people that attend our boxing club. Working alongside our coaching team, you will attend our youth boxing classes workingdirectly with young people, building trust and being available to those that need to access support. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in youth sport and understand how it can be used as a vehicle to supportphysical and mental wellbeing in young people.


About NPBA:
NPBA is the first women-led boxing club in the UK and we are based between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden. Our goal is to provide opportunities to participate in boxing either as an amateur sport or to improve physical and mental wellbeing. We prioritise our services to women and girls, but wewelcome everyone and support them to develop in an empowering and fun environment through boxing, exercise and social inclusion. 


About you:
Essential criteria:

  • Experience of how to support the social, emotional, mental health needs of young people including face-to-face work.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with local services to enable effective signposting.
  • The ability to relate to and form positive relationships with colleagues and young people.
  • A confident, resilient and positive personality that ties in with the NPBA ethos.
  • Available to start Autumn Term, September 2022

Desirable criteria:

  • Level 2 Counselling qualification
  • Experience of working (or a very keen interest) in youth sports including boxing.
  • A willingness to undertake a 1 day “Boxing Tutor” qualification plus First Aid training, expenses covered by NPBA.

As part of our vetting processes, a DBS check is required and two referees who can vouch for your character and experience.

Responsible to: General Manager & Welfare Director

Salary: £16.50 per hour

Hours: 4 hours per week. Flexible part time hours between 430pm-830pm Monday to Thursday during term time (39 weeks per year). Plus a total of 20 hours school holiday cover over the duration of the contract.  Thisis a funded post for a limited time only (until July 2023)
