Intro to Sparring: One-Off Workshop
Starts: 730pm.
Duration: 60 minutes, with the option to stay for an extra 30
An introduction to sparring for boxers interested in progressing towards regular sparring at the club. You'll get a first experience of what sparring looks and feels like, and learn the expectations and etiquette involved.
The session will include:
- Warm-ups and drills to get you moving and working with a partner
- Demonstrations of controlled sparring, so you know what to expect
- Light partner work, with coaches matching partners by experience and ability
- Technical rounds focusing on defence, movement, distance or specific punches
Sparring should be a conversation between two boxers: a chance to practise skills, learn from each other and develop together.
Safety first: As this session takes place before boxer medicals, all sparring will be light and controlled. The aim is to introduce the experience, not full-intensity sparring.
Kit: Kit: We provide the 14–16oz gloves needed for sparring and have a limited number of headguards to borrow. If you have a gumshield, please bring it.
Next steps: Boxers who want to continue sparring will need an England Boxing Medical done at the club on Thursday 12th November (£10–20, depending on numbers).
Parents / Family are welcome to stay and watch, so you can see what sparring at the club involves and how we keep it safe.
